Recreate outputs before you generate your own
Pick a result you admire — a generated image, an edited video clip, a piece of AI-assisted copy — and try to reproduce it step by step using the same tool. Reverse-engineering forces you to understand the decision points behind a result, not just appreciate the surface. Most learners skip this entirely and wonder why their own outputs feel flat.
Keep a prompt log, not a mood board
Save the exact text of prompts that worked alongside the output. A mood board collects results; a prompt log records the reasoning. After two weeks, patterns in your own language become visible — which words you over-rely on, where you get vague, what constraints actually help.
Deliberate constraint practice
Set an artificial limit before a session — one style reference only, no more than eight words in a prompt, output must fit a square crop. Constraints reveal how well you actually understand a tool versus how much you rely on its defaults to cover gaps in your knowledge.
